MAKING ECO CARDS
As we have grown, we have been able to move from medium to high content recycled paper. We are proud to say that all cards and envelopes are made from 100% post consumer waste recycled paper.
Our cards and envelopes are chlorine free and we use vegetable inks. Our shipping materials are environmentally friendly and recyclable, such as hemp, recycled cardboard and reused materials.
Since printing is a major component of our business, we tour our printer's facility to work closely with them and guarantee their commitment to environmental stewardship. Some of the programs that our printer has implemented ad proactively monitors include:
- Environmentally responsible ink systems
- Energy consumption reduction
- Wastewater testing
- Air pollution controls
- Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certification
- Reduction in delvery fleet fuel consumption
- Responsible waste disposal and recycling
- Worker safety
Additionally, our printer tracks any waste created in their facility for anything we are making as part of our Waste Reduction Program.
Despite higher costs, we choose to print in the US to ensure employee benefits are provided, including health care, retirement, flex time and work from home options.
Internally, we do everything we can to reduce, reuse and recycle. In 2007, we implemented our Waste Reduction Program to help us identify ways we can improve. We measure our recycling, composting, material donations and true waste. We are really proud to state, on average, we produce only 2 pounds of trash a month.
Our Waste Reduction Program includes,
- First and foremost, we look for ways to reduce, like printing on both sides of a sheet of paper or deciding if it is really necessary to print that e-mail.
- We re-use materials: packaging supplies, turning scrap paper into notepads, etc.
- We use the highest recycled content for all our office supplies and promotional communications.
- We recycle all our office technology like printers or phones if they cannot be donated.
- We divert all items from the landfill which can be donated to local Headstarts, animal shelters or community service organizations.
- We combine trips or use alternative transportation - walking, bus and train. Our favorite is still biking. No company vehicle gets less than 50mpg.
- We use energy star products and energy efficient lighting.
- We use water conservation products and methods.
- We buy carbon offsets for our printing and delivery activities.
